Kymatica

Ben Stewart 2009
Run time: 83 min. | USA

50 trillion cells come together to create us; a living, breathing, human identity. These cells are to us as we are to the world. We must look at the world not as a big ball of space but as the living body that contains us. If we continue to destruct the earth, it would be like cancer degrading a human body. In the end “we” will cause the downfall of our mother earth if we continue to think as we do. There is also a lot of political views within the documentary which I do not necessarily agree with but still very interesting.

Zeitgeist: Addendum

Peter Joseph 2008
Run time: 123 min. | USA

In this documentary film, the director, Peter Joseph attempts to locate the root causes of this pervasive social corruption, while offering a solution. This solution is not based on politics, morality, laws, or any other “establishment” notions of human affairs, but rather on a modern, non-superstitious based understanding of what we are and how we align with nature, to which we are a part. The work advocates a new social system that is updated to present day knowledge, highly influenced by the life long work of Jacque Fresco and The Venus Project.

RiseUP

Luciano Blotta 2009
Run time: 88 min. | USA

RiseUP is a journey into the heart of Jamaica – the island that gave birth to the worldwide phenomenon of Reggae. In a society where talent abounds and opportunity is scarce, three distinct and courageous artists fight to rise up from obscurity and write themselves into the pages of history.

With music and appearances by legends Lee “Scratch” Perry, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, and a slew of soon-to-be superstars, RiseUP follows artists in the dangerous streets, back alleys and crowed dance halls of Kingston and the countryside. These artists demonstrate the raw power of hope and courage in a land which is largely unseen, but certainly not unsung.

Roadsworth: Crossing the Line

Alan Kohl 2008
Run time: 72 min. | Canada

Roadsworth: Crossing the Line details a Montreal stencil artist’s clandestine campaign to make his mark on the city streets. Hailed as an “artist’s artist” by Wooster Collective, Roadsworth began to play with the language of the streets, overlaying city asphalt markings with his own images: a crosswalk becomes a giant boot print, vines choked up traffic dividers, and electrical plugs filled parking spots. Each piece begged the question, Who owns public space? As he is prosecuted at home and celebrated abroad, Roadsworth struggles to defend his work, define himself as an artist and address difficult questions about art and freedom of expression.
